I recently ran into someone at the market who looked at Herman in surprise: ‘Do you still exist?’
The man had seen Herman in the theater in the sixties. They struck up a conversation, and Herman told him that, besides genetic luck, singing has probably ensured that he is still able to tour with heart and soul and perform.
Of course, it creaks here and there, and Herman doesn’t jump as high as he did at seventy-eight. But yes, sir, Herman is still here. And if it’s up to Herman, even longer.
Herman van Veen (1945) is a singer, writer, composer, painter, and theater maker. Since his debut in 1965, he has toured the world with his performances. He has released some 180 CDs, about 80 books, a few dozen plays, and a large number of paintings. He has received many awards and honors for his artistic and humanitarian work.
