Open any fairytale book and the world is presented to you in terms of good and evil, savior and victim, trousers and dresses. One dreams of marriage and babies, the other of fighting and adventure. She sweeps the floor and polishes the brass, he explores the forest as a hunter. The girl is beautiful and quiet, the boy tough and wild. And so it is, so we are told, for years and years and years.
