Het huis dat stopte met staan

A visual and poetic story about what it means to have a home and what happens when you no longer feel at home there. A small-scale, bombastic performance with objects, miniatures, shadows, and music.

The House That Stopped Standing is about resilience, family, and fleeing. In a house that comes to life and miniatures that evoke new worlds, young Kolja discovers that your roots can keep growing while you are on the road. The visual performance style sparks the imagination and gives the young audience ample room to empathize with deeper themes: what does home mean? And what happens when you lose it?

Writer Elsa van Dijk writes cheerfully dark with a touch of surrealism. Her work prefers to be found where you least expect it. Director Ramses Graus has been awarded for his work, which is ‘exciting through pure suggestion; extraordinarily funny without seeking a laugh,’ according to Theaterkrant . As in all productions by De Horde, the audience can see how everything is created live: houses that come to life and miniatures that conjure up new worlds.
