De Surpriseshow
As a girl in the Kollum asylum seekers’ center, Nazanin waited for one thing: an invitation from Henny Huisman. But it never came. Now, with an acting diploma and a flourishing career, she stands on stage herself. In her raw, hilarious, and moving solo performance, she asks the question that has been waiting for years: what happens to the dreams of a girl who saw everything, but was never seen?
The Surprise Show tells the poignant story of a child growing up between uncertainty and hope. A personal yet universal story about the search for a future in an uncertain world. In 1994, Nazanin fled Iran and ended up in the Kollum Asylum Seekers’ Centre. Years later, she stands on stage with a diploma, finally one step closer to Henny Huisman. Full of childhood memories of blossoming friendships in the waiting rooms of a system that referred but never answered.
Nazanin Taheri (Iran, 1987) fled to the Netherlands as a child and grew up in the Kollum Asylum Seekers’ Centre. She graduated from a Dutch drama academy and built a multifaceted career in theatre and television. In 2015, she founded Theatre Group IND — In Nederland Dromen —.
