Waiting for the Barbarians
A theatrical explosion with singers, dancers, and orchestra. Philip Glass’s masterpiece explores the essential theme of our time: the distinction between ‘us’ and ‘them’.
Nederlandse Reisopera, together with Club Guy & Roni and the North Netherlands Orchestra, presents Philip Glass’s Waiting for the Barbarians , a late masterpiece by the most important living classical composer.
Based on the Nobel Prize-winning novel by J.M. Coetzee, the opera focuses on the distinction between ‘us’ and ‘them’. A top international cast, including mezzo-soprano Charlotte Hellekant and soprano Lilian Farahani, performs this together with dancers from Club Guy & Roni, the choir of Consensus Vocalis, and the North Netherlands Orchestra.
