De Zandloper
From the watchtower on the Kootwijkerzand, you have a fantastic view of the Veluwe and Radio Kootwijk. The 13.5-metre-high watchtower has been aptly named De Zandloper. It is freely accessible to the public between sunrise and sunset.
Uitkijktoren Stadspark Berg & Bos
Vanaf de uitkijktoren op het Kootwijkerzand heb je een fantastisch uitzicht over de Veluwe en Radio Kootwijk. De 13,5 meter hoge uitkijktoren heeft de toepasselijke naam De Zandloper gekregen. Hij is vrij toegankelijk voor publiek tussen zonsopgang en zonsondergang.
Wildobservatieplaatsen Asselsche Heide
On the edge of the Asselsche Heide you will find four observation spots consisting of a bench at a higher point in the landscape. From these spots you have a great overview of the heathlands. In the summer months, you can regularly spot red deer and roe deer walking peacefully across the heath during the day.

Of course you want to eat healthy – and preferably – as fresh as possible. You will find plenty of unsprayed fruit and vegetables in Apeldoorn’s picking gardens. At Stadsakkers in Zuidbroek, you can buy the tastiest organic products in the fresh food shop. And from June you can pick your own fruit at Pluktuin Apeldoorn in Wenum-Wiesel. Great for children to see for themselves exactly where the vegetables on their plates come from! And if you choose local produce, your ‘footprint’ is smaller too. Triple win-win!

Looking for red deer, roe deer, foxes, boars and Scottish highlanders in and around Apeldoorn? In the Kroondomeinen, near the Aardhuis and on the Loenermark, the chances of seeing wildlife are pretty good. But besides these, there are many more places in the villages around Apeldoorn where you can spot wildlife par excellence. Don’t forget your binoculars! The wildlife spotting map can also be picked up physically at the Tourist information Point in CODA Museum.
